1. CONTEXT

a) Explicit: The Sermon on the Mount – “…these words of mine..” (v24,26)

b) Examples: perfection (5:48), priorities (6:33), prospects (7:21b) Impossible? See Matt 19:25-26 Why do you call Me Lord and not do what I tell you (Luke 6:46)

2. COMPARISON

Everyone who hears these words of mine……:

a) and does them

b) and does not do them

…..will be like:

a) a wise man

b) a foolish man

…who built his house:

a) on the rock

b) on the sand

..rain fell, floods came, winds blew and beat on that house..

a) and it did not fall

b) and it fell…. and great was the fall of it

3. CALAMITY

a) It is common to both – the storm beats against both houses. The Christian is not spared the storms of life but is kept secure through them.

b) It is catastrophic for one – the storm cannot be avoided and his house fell
