THE GOSPEL OF JOHN (Chs 1-6) 12. THE BREAD OF LIFE AND THE GATECRASHERS (John 6:25-59)

Who are the Gatecrashers?:

1. THE MATERIALISTS (v26)

These people were concerned only to fill their stomachs. They did not “see” the sign that which proved Jesus was the Son of God yet they had been there when the miracle was performed.

2. THE LEGALISTS (v28)

They ask what they need to be doing to do the works of God. They imagine all they have to do is follow a list of do’s and don’t’s but they’re wrong.

3. THE SENSATIONALISTS (v30)

All these people are interested in is getting Jesus to perform a sign a bit like a circus entertainer. Jesus tells them it wasn’t Moses who provided the “manna” in the wilderness but God Himself. Jesus said to these people “I AM the bread of life, whoever believes in Me will not hunger and thirst”.

So much for the Gatecrashers. What about the “Grace-catchers”?

They have these great promises:

a) They do not need to look anywhere else for grace. (v35)

b) They will never be cast out (v37)

c) Those who come to Jesus will never be lost (v39)

d) They receive eternal life now and will be raised up at the last day.

e) No-one comes to Jesus unless His Father calls them. (v43-59)
